Thanks to generous donor support, Cleveland Clinic Lou Ruvo Center for Brain Health offers patients with brain disease and their families an array of no-cost art and music programs, many of which migrated to a virtual setting at the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. Would you have believed a hands-on art making class could proceed via videoconference?
While art making promotes patient-caregiver interaction, increases socialization and provides space for individuals to change their routine, de-stress and unwind, interactive art lectures strike a different chord, facilitating “no wrong answer” conversations and inspiring participation among those with and without dementia. Telling stories through art is fun, fosters thought-provoking exchanges and creative thinking, and can stimulate distant memories. Our Learning Arts programs take participants on eclectic excursions via videoconference with museums worldwide. The entire community is welcome; topics span music, botany, classic paintings and more, often themed around seasonal happenings.
Acclaimed singer-songwriter Andrea Bocelli and his wife, Veronica, endowed the Rolando Brunelli Caregiver Program at Cleveland Clinic Lou Ruvo Center for Brain Health. Named in honor of Veronica Bocelli’s grandfather, who succumbed to Alzheimer’s disease, the program sponsors music, art and other creative outlets that enhance the relationships between caregivers and patients.
Every Little Bit Helps
Just $200 buys a year’s worth of art therapy sessions, and $300 pays for a year’s worth of music therapy sessions for one person. Not everyone can write checks in those amounts, but keep in mind that smaller contributions add up quickly. We are grateful for your support in any denomination.
